Le déploiement américain en Charente-Inférieure (1917-1919)

En Charente-Inférieure, à la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale, les Américains ne se sont pas seulement établis à La Rochelle-La Pallice et à Rochefort. Ils ont conçu un vaste plan de nouvelles installations en tenant compte des zones urbanisées et des infrastructures de communication existantes. Parmi ces projets, l’édification de « Port Wilson » à Talmont. Abandonné en plein chantier aussitôt après l’Armistice, le projet sera un moment repris après la guerre mais à nouveau abandonné au profit de la création du port du Verdon.

US Troop Deployment in Charente-Maritime 1917-1919

In 1918  USEF  troops were established in Base Section VII that included the La Rochelle-Rochefort perimeter as landing facility.  A vast network of of new installations was planned using the existing communications infrastructures and   taking account of the layout of the urban areas. The project included the installation of   "Wilson Harbour" in Talmont. It was abandoned at the end of 1918. It was brought up again for a short time in 1921 and was finally discarded in 1923. Years later  the more convenient site of Le Verdon,  the outer port of Bordeaux on the opposite bank of the Gironde estuary was chosen.
